Seminarios Internacionales de Fronteras de la Ciencia de Materiales. 3D stress states and scale effects associated with sharp notches and cracks
Classical two-dimensional solutions of the theory of elasticity form a framework of the contemporary Linear Elastic Notch and Fracture Mechanics. However, these solutions, in fact, are approximations despite the corresponding governing equations of the plane theories of elasticity are solved exactly. In certain situations the 2D solutions can provide misleading results; and several characteristic examples will be discussed
